Faces at the Door | Pods of Poems — Episode 4
❤️ A poem about dementia, caring, and the people behind the diagnosis.
What happens when someone you love begins to change in ways you can’t explain, and the familiar world around them becomes confusing?
In this episode of Pods of Poems, we explore the realities of dementia and caring through an original poem written by Anne.
Drawing on many years of experience working as a live-in carer, Anne writes from the heart, sharing the realities and emotions that can come with caring for someone living with dementia.
When someone no longer recognises a familiar face, no longer recognises a beloved pet, or repeatedly says they want to go home, those moments can be heart breaking for everyone involved.
Dementia affects more than the person receiving the diagnosis. It touches families, friends and carers too — including the many unpaid carers who quietly give so much of themselves to support someone they love.
Behind every diagnosis is a person with a lifetime of memories, experiences, relationships and feelings. They deserve patience, dignity, understanding and kindness.
And the people doing the caring deserve understanding and kindness too.
Thank you for listening. If this episode touches your heart or reflects something you have experienced, you are welcome to share your thoughts. ❤️
I'm only just starting out with Pods of Poems, but I'd love to slowly build a supportive space where carers can chat, support each other and, most importantly, have a laugh! ❤️

Don't be shy — come and say hi! 👋 The kettle's on (virtually, of course 😂☕). There's room for a moan, a laugh, a chat and everything in between. ❤️
